Australia is home to one of the world's most established Ukrainian diaspora communities, with roots dating back to post-WWII migration and a second wave since the late 1980s. Today an estimated 30,000–50,000 people of Ukrainian heritage live in Australia, concentrated mainly in Melbourne and Sydney, with active communities in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Geelong and Canberra. This has built a genuine network of community schools, cultural centres and churches — most of it not well indexed online, which is exactly why we've put this directory together.
A note on accuracy: community-run classes change contact details and schedules over time. We've sourced this list from official organisation websites, but we recommend confirming current details directly before attending — most contacts are listed below.
🏫 Ukrainian Community Schools by State
Australia has around 8–11 active Ukrainian community schools, mostly run on Saturdays, teaching language, culture, history and often dance or music (including the bandura, Ukraine's traditional stringed instrument). Most welcome students from preschool through to VCE/HSC-level Ukrainian.

Monash University
Undergraduate Ukrainian language, literature and culture programs within the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics — available to complete beginners and existing speakers, with Honours and Graduate Diploma options.
Macquarie University
Offers Ukrainian studies as part of its language programs, with community-funded support for continued teaching.

🏙️ Victoria
Home to Australia's largest Ukrainian community. The Association of Ukrainians in Victoria (AUV) runs cultural events, language support and community programs, including resources for recently arrived Ukrainians since 2022.
🏙️ National Federation
The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) is the umbrella body connecting dozens of Ukrainian schools, churches, cultural and youth groups nationwide — the best first stop if you're not sure which local group to contact.
🏙️ NSW, SA, WA & QLD
Sydney and Adelaide have long-established Ukrainian communities with churches and cultural centres; Perth and Brisbane have smaller but active groups. The AFUO directory above can point you to the current contact for your state.
