One hour per week consistently for six months produces dramatically better results than intensive study that burns out. Schedule your tutoring sessions like any important appointment and protect that time.

Note down questions, vocabulary gaps and situations where you got stuck during the week between sessions. Tutors work most effectively when you bring specific things to work on rather than starting each session from scratch.

The purpose of tutoring is speaking practice. Don't let sessions become extended grammar explanations — push yourself to speak in the target language as much as possible, even when it's uncomfortable.
